Photos of two of the fabulous Ranch fire posses that made their way around Greenfield to homesteads closet to the fires' pathway or those most in need of clearance work. Lots of stories to be shared and added to the folklore of our watershed hamlets.
From our vantage point here at Ranch center, the fires were mostly beneficial. They functioned as cool control burns that burned the flashiest fuels -- leaving these watersheds in less fire-vulnerable condition and dusted with much needed ash. Native peoples managed these forests and grasslands for millennia to enhance biological diversity and abundance. Fire has been absent too long which has diminished ecological health and resiliency.
Easy to be philosophical now that the 'worse' appears to be behind us here on Greenfield. Definitely will need to gear up for erosion control on firebreaks, etc... May everyone and everyone's homes remain unscathed. We're hopeful that the still-running Running Springs and Orr Complex fires ramp down soon with no injuries or loss of structures.
