Radical Ridge :Sequoia, 5: 56 pm

I just spoke with Lasara, who has returned to Radical Ridge at our house.

She said there are two dozers and three fire trucks with crews at the house. They have created a fire break around the main house and also have worked on the fire break that was built along the road to Jack Smith Creek behind our house, as well as another fire break in the meadow. Other fire breaks are being cut from ridge to creek to stop the fire spreading in the direction of Redwood Valley on both sides of Jack Smith Creek, she said.

Lasara said that CalFire's Mike Maynard went in a helicopter and said the fire doesn't look as bad as expected. The winds are up a bit so they expected it might look worse, but it is not a raging wall of flame, Maynard told Lasara. It looks promising at the moment, although conditions obviously could change.

Crews told Lasara they consider the house and Jamie's house defensible space. Our house is the first line of defense, Lasara said. She said they are not going in to fight the fire at this point, but they have said they will stay until the fire is out, is contained or has passed through.

Emrys and Lasara and friends are now setting out to cut some more fir trees.
