FROM THE COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE:
A phone Tree has been created. the following people are contact points for questions information etc. If you can't get your contact person feel free to try another contact person. they will get back to you with info etc. If your cell phone number is NOT on the Phone Directory that Sequoia has been sending out Please call your neighborhood contact person and give it to her. Also please send that info to Sequoia.
A few notes of importance
- Evacuation Warning--means there is a possibility of immediate danger so get prepared- car packed, ready to drive out
- Evacuation Order- means leave now--waiting may cause traffic congestion and interfere with fire fighters coming onto the ranch- in the event of an Evacuation Order remember to:
- shut off propane at tank
- close all doors (interior and exterior) and windows and leave house unlocked
- leave some lights on- if fire is fought in thick smoke or at night this will make residence visible to firefighters
- do a head count especially if there is a crew of volunteers
- put a sign on gate or house stating that you have evacuated (this may speed things up for fire crews)
In the meantime
- make sure your address is clear...make large sign in contrasting colors
- identify special needs in your neighborhood i.e. is there someone who needs help evacuating or is out of communication
- let your contact person know if you need help with clearing your place etc and/or if you can volunteer to help clearing
In the event of an evacuation order we will try to use the phone tree but everyone should keep listening to radio on the hour. It has been suggested that everyone use airhorns..maybe this is a neighborhood by neighborhood decision....
Note From Sequoia: The land phone lines those of us without cell phone reception depend upon will be destroyed by fire if it starts to move. Please consider buying some Airhorns to reach us. This is especially true along Eldridge Creek. I suggest 2 warnings:
1. Fire situation is changing: 3 beeps - 90 second pause - 3 beeps - 90 second pause etc.
2. Evacuate ASAP: Continuing beeps or siren without long pauses.
(disclaimer: this Airhorn idea has not been approved by the communications committee)
