Those photos, and the people in them, are awesome!
I am taking very seriously what Meca said about gearing up for erosion control on the firebreaks. Driving home tonight, I noticed that many of them are close to streams, and I shuddered to think of the siltation we will cause if we don't do something to secure them.
There is much to do to clean up, and it would be great if we start planning for it before the rush of immediacy has passed. For instance, we all now have tons of brush hanging around our houses, drying out and getting nice and kindling-ish. I checked on prices of renting chippers, and it would be much cheaper to rent for a week and share the cost, and hopefully the work, at many houses. Or maybe someone on the ranch actually has one...?
I personally had a great time working with all of you, and was amazed at the amount of work that got done! I know there are many homesteads here on the ranch that could use more fire protection work, especially since as we know this is only the beginning of the fire season!
Finally, it occurs to me that Guy must have spent a ton of money on fuel for the cat work he did here, and it would be really good to chip in to cover the cost of building these awesome fire breaks.
Is anyone besides me interested in having a meeting fairly soon to discuss these things?
Thanks,
